The Central Government today announced Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) hike for Central Government Employees and Pensioners . Earlier in January, 2020 the government had increased the dearness allowance by 4 per cent, by 3 per cent in June 2020 and by 4 per cent in January 2021. Central employees currently get a dearness allowance at the rate of 17 per cent. However, now the employees will get a DA at 28 per cent on their basic pay.

Today in a press briefing, Central Minister Anurag Thakur told that the Dearness Allowance (DA) for Central employees and pensioners has been increased from 17 per cent to 28 per cent. This will be applicable from 1st July 2021. The Cabinet Committee chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the decision to increase the DA and DR for employees and pensioner .

In view of the unprecedented crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic, three additional instalments of Dearness Allowance (DA) to Central employees and Dearness Relief (DR) to pensioners, which were due from 01.01.2020, 01.07.2020 and 01.01.2021, had been frozen . If you add the speculated hike of 3 per cent in July 2021, then the total DA will stand at around 31 per cent of your basic salary.

The Government has decided to increase the Dearness Allowance to Central Government employees and Dearness Relief to pensioners with effect from 01.07.2021 to 28% representing an increase of 11% over the existing rate of 17% of the Basic Pay/Pension,” the Ministry of Finance said in a statement.
